GPs or family doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All day, all night, all the time. Some surgeries open late into the evening or on weekends whilst others have more traditional opening hours, but they all have one thing in common: they all link to the GP Out of Hours service as soon as they close their doors each day.

You can also call NHS 111 service. The 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by nurses who will ask questions to assess your symptoms. They will then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straight away to the local service that can help you best. That could be Accident and Emergency Department (A&E), an out-of-hours doctor, a walk in or urgent care centre; a community nurse, an emergency dentist or a late opening pharmacy. 111 is available 24 hours a day a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.
